whats safe enough
after the edwards ,kesolouski ??? crap last week end car safty is on my mind. Regardless of your view about fault, the crash was real scary and uncalled for .Although we dont run as fast the real danger is a crash like that one . our rules " imply ' that a stock chassied car is required......with the allowance of tieing unibodies together. The larger tracks are kweesy about safty .....now is possibly the time to consider stock front clip cars with real cages.Lets not push people to use rusty ,weak framed stoc k chassis and try to weld cages to it . A smarter approach would be to allow stock cliped late model type chassis with a stock ish rear controll set up ....the guys up front have real good setups safty wise ..franks goal is possibly to produce a generic frame using stock components .....great idea .allow it now and give the real stockers a weight break ...lets not have a tragidy and then do something .there is an abundance of older latemodel chassis with stock clips that could be made easily into a safe stock apearing car . it is possibly the turning point for this event format is just around the corner.....well built safe structures are a must ...i am not convinced that patching up stock rust is prudet or really less expensive... now get your rust ready ...Bristol Then the rock ....hot damn waldo |

Re: whats safe enough
Personally, I am not opposed to it. Stock clip cars are dirt cheap, possibly cheaper then a stock frame car. I do wonder if it will kill the car count though. Mike |

Re: whats safe enough
I don't think it would kill car counts! There are more of those types around then the all-stock rust buckets! I know of a few that have stock clip / fabed rears that would be there in a heartbeat! I think it increase the car count by at least 30 cars "right now"! I personally like the idea from a safety stand point. |

Re: whats safe enough
I just did some checking around and called a few people with half fabed cars. Those chassis would be cheaper. But, even if it cost me alittle more right now I would do it because of safety! The couple of people I just talked to would have thier cars at the race in a new york second! If it were allowable... Well Frank, ? Something to consider.. |

| Re: whats safe enough why u guys always tring to screw with the rules? if your stock car aint safe enough to race and have to worry about it you shouldnt be racing. this is street stoick not late model with a street stock clip..c u at bristol... |

| Re: whats safe enough The few events I've been in the pit area for have shown me that these cars are as safe as anything else out there. Whether the front clip is stock or fabricated from scratch really doesn't make much difference. Stock front clips are reinforced enough that strength is not really an issue. It comes down to who is doing the welding. As long as the welds are all good, there is no problem. All the chassis work I've seen is very well done. These cars are probably safer than the Cup cars that were being used a decade ago. The |

| Re: whats safe enough NC, To start with no one is talking about fabricating the front cliip. It's fine leave it alone! Waldo mentioned the rest of the car! As far as being in the pit area and seeing these cars. You must have been looking at only the top 3 or 4 cars because alot of them that I have seen are absoluty scary! It also has nothing to do with how good of a welder they are, it has to do with the frame the have to work with. And Greg, I have to respectfully disagree with you. No one mentioned latemodel cars, just fabricated rears! "that's it"! No straight rails, No quick Changes, No Coilovers, No Fiberglass bodies. None of that exotic stuff! If it went that way I wouldn't want any part of it either. |

Re: whats safe enough
All I merely stated was that I agree with Waldo. And it's something Frank should seriously consider for the future growth and safety of this class! But it would have to be closely watched and guided so it did not go the way of the lateModel's |

| Re: whats safe enough look at it from a $ angle....first off any stock chassis if you can find one is several hundre dollars. they are being crushed in a hurry. hull it out and try and weld a cage in. 2000.00 easy ...put screw jacks in and other suspension stuff and on and on .......around here a used latemodle late model stock with a stock clip is less than 1500.00....with evey thing already done...and a jamup safe cage and fire wall anf fuel cell compartment . If we really get several 1-1.5 trackls then the car safty is going to step up ...has to you dont want to get a side impact with current street stock cages ....that all i am trying to say ...look at franks car .....safe all the way round |
