The Future of Street Stock Nationals
My main goal for the Nationals from the beginning and is still the main goal, is to give the street stock guys, the bread and butter of stock car racing, the opportunity to race on tracks that you would never get the chance to race on. With that said, I never promised a series, though that is a distinct possibility if I can ever get enough tracks to sign on. The economy has been a major factor in why we haven't gotten any more track to race on. Believe me, I have made considerable efforts with some major speedways to take a chance with us, but most always, they signal that they don't want to take a chance and loose money on an event. It takes considerable amount of dollars to turn on lights, staff the facility, provide the insurance, etc to put on an event, and when you're used to making millions on a NASCAR race, it's hard to get them to look past the money and have a race for the grassroots racer. I have been talking with several tracks already about next year. We're negotiating with a major speedway to do a test this fall that will open up the potential to go to several more 1 - 1 1/2 mile speedways. I believe the possibility of going to a 1 mile dirt race next year looks very good and I'm talking to another speedway about an event. If these come through, we should have a 6 - 8 race schedule for 2011. A series is possible with corporate backing as well. I have talked with several companies in the past that have an interest in doing something. I know there have been some criticism about some tracks we have raced on this past year and a half. I'm just trying to let you have a place to run your cars since you have made the effort to build them. It is not my intention to continue to do this, again, trying to give you guys that have been loyal a place to race. I think the future is bright for the Nationals. With some of the conversations I've had with the promoters, it is encouraging. When we solidify a date with a track, you guys will be the first to know. All I ask of you is to try and support the events we have right now and hopefully 2011 will be a breakthrough year for the Nationals. Any questions, let me know. Frank |

| Re: The Future of Street Stock Nationals It is my belief that the Street Stock Nationals could be huge, but I still talk to many people in and around the racing industry that haven't even heard of it. We all need to help get the word out. The economy sure hasn't helped things, but that's only one piece of the puzzle. Getting the car counts up there is a big factor in my opinion. I am building a car, but it will be some time before it's complete. If this takes off and finds some stability, I'll probably build two or three cars. Not having an event at North Wilkesboro was a disappointment. It is my understanding that it was mostly about money. Can't speak for anyone else, but I'd be willing to throw some cash in the pot if it meant holding an event at North Wilkesboro, or any other place that's on the fence, for that matter. Times are tough and we all need to dig in and help each other out. Without Frank pushing this along, there is no series, and without competitors (preferably about 90 of them) there's not much of a show to sell. I also believe that if Bruton Smith thinks this is a good show, then there would be more races at SMI tracks. Looking forward to the Bristol race!!! |
