Bristol set up!

need a little info on a set up for Bristol. Camber, caster, springs, cross etc... I hope to be able to participate there if I am not away from home working, I do maintenence on turbines and generators in power plants and nukes. Peak season for outages is from bout the middle of Jan. till round the end of May, then were off in the summer and it cranks up again around the first to middle of Sept. till around the end of Dec. so im hoping to be home still. If I can be 100% sure to be home and able to compete I only live about an hour from the track and I may talk to some part store owners and maybe a walmart and do some promoting and advertising to try to get some people in the stands. But first I need a set up to put under the car

Re: Bristol set up!

Here's the set up we used on our test street stock and it seemed to work pretty good:

SPRINGS

LF 1000 RF 1400
LR 400 RR 300

CAMBER

LF 4 POSITIVE
RF 6 NEGATIVE

CASTER

LF 1 POSITIVE
RF 3 POSITIVE

47% REAR WEIGHT
56% LEFT SIDE
58% CROSS

This set up should get you close. Every chassis is different and you may need to adjust accordingly.

Re: Bristol set up!

Thanks alot Frank, another quick question: I have stock impala spindles, rotors and calipers. How do the brakes seem to hold up? Is it necessary to run cooling ducts to keep the brakes cool?

Re: Bristol set up!

Your brakes should be fine. You don't use much brake at Bristol, so cooling ducts are not necessary.
I would definetly recommend a good aftermarket brake pad, like the ones available from Hawk Brake.

Re: Bristol set up!

a good gear to start with by some choices would be 456

Re: Bristol set up!

Don't forget you will still be running a 5000 rpm limiter even with a crate.

Re: Bristol set up!

A 4.56 would be way to much with the rev limiter. It would be ideal if not for the limiter. A couple of us ran crates at nashville and we ran a 3.70. If I remember correctly we were turning around 4600 to 4800. A 3.70 might be to much for Bristol since corner speeds are so much greater.

Re: Bristol set up!

Gregory,

My guess on a gear choice will be 350 to a 370 for the crate. Also, I've always felt the locker is the way to go, but everyone has their own preference on this matter.
