rule questions about Frames & etc.
I have read the rules and it states that frames/chassis, must remain stock! However I'm reading on here that they have been modified for lenght. & etc, Is this legal? and does the same hold for making the frame wider? (by a couple of inches) While on the subject of frames, Once again states no modifications! How about front spring pockets and upper control arm mounts on it. How are builders handleing or dealing with these issues? Are there pictures somewhere that someone can see how this is being done? Also it states that the brakes have to be OEM, What about the peddles? And what about 2" drop spindles? That's all for now "I think" In advance, I appreciate any help or advise that I can get... Thank's, Dave. |

Re: rule questions about Frames & etc.
I think they consider that to be a "modified" stock frame, which is fine. One Nova in particular I can think of is a jig-built center section with Nova front and rear clips. This, I suppose, is still stock enough. Mike |

Re: rule questions about Frames & etc.
welcome back Dave, I also questioned the frames with some of the cars that altered the length exap: monte carlo frame shortened to 108" wheel base. How do you consider that to be stock? I guess if the rules stated "stock unaltered frames", then those cars would not be considered legal. I think at this point it would be crazy to change rules such as this. From what I have noticed these type cars are pretty comon in the north east. Here in the south, that type car would be a sportsman or grand stock /charger. Our street stocks for the most around here have stock floor pans and firewalls. I think this keeps the cost down tremendously. Anybody know what it would cost to have Kimmel series car built rolling chasis by professional race shop, including shortening frame and hanging body? Around here we take a stock body car, gut it out and mount the cage to the stock frame. You could have a nice cage tied in front to rear with fuel-cell mounts and all safety bars installed professionaly for $1000-$1200. To me that is a realistic price for street stocks. Any one care to comment? |

I think Frank built one or rather gutted it and fixed it the way he wanted to and raced the firecracker race in fastest car on the track until motor started smoking... think he was going to take 9000 for it thats car, setup, tranny, driveshaft, rearend, and all... dont know what he wanted with motor |

| Re: rule questions about Frames & etc. Rules states 108 in wheel base min.,aftermarket pedals are ok,if the master cylinders are not in the stock location, then it says you add 50 # |

Re: rule questions about Frames & etc.
dont consider the current rules to be as stringint as they appear. the type of chassis will have a great influence on the deviation from stock that you will have to do ....metric chassis ...to get to the min roof height must have extinsive work to the chassis to get lowenough. under the current rules select your car carefully to minimise the work involved . the 30 or so cars that are now comming on a regular bassis are for the most part not typical street stocks , shortened frames, upper towers moved, rear mounts modified ,impala spindles, floor pans and firewalls fabricated but the appearance and basic chassis components appear and are stock. maybe not for the particular car model but for the general mfg. these cars are running in excess of 120 mph regularly....a rusty stock frame or unibody should be not be considered. when i started i too was perplexed about what i saw and what the rules staited .....if you have a sound basic structure for a car , a well made cage ...then think what you will have to change and call frank for guidence......he is understanding and will give you good advise . good luck |
