Re: this series is doomed!!!!!
I disagree strongly! All the aspects of this series are in place. You have the Kimmel name, the savy tech support, the location/travel staff, and an whole bunch of expierenced teams that are willing to travel to some awesome venues. Wait till the chatter starts for the Bristol race. The only thing lacking is a schedule. If we had, say, 6 races locked in and had some great locations like the Rock, Kentucky, Bristol, Atlanta, Charlotte, Darlington, Richmond, Kansas you pick um. Fill in with Salem, Nashville etc. I believe I speak for a lot of guys that would quit the weekly grind and lock into this deal. I believe Frank will come through for us, I'm banking on it. Re: this series is doomed!!!!!
May be ....I too have had concerns from time to time .but it is possible that we are nearing the end of the dark ages.....there is significant interest i am told from several large venues to have an event SAFTY it appears is the primary problem. The event at bristol must show well and All drivers must conduct themselves with this in mind . It is possible that there will be a limited test at charlotte after bristol .... and a dirt track .........this is very good news. The small turn out for the short tracks is understandable . I have talked to frank several times and i truly believe that he is fully commited to making this work His deep involvment with arca , is another issue ...i wont rehash all that Would I invest in a kimmel car today .....no......there are 70 + quaranteed #s...i would asume that most have a car.....so there is a base group If ...just If ...6 races could be firmly posted........Bristol, Charlotte ,Rockingham, Kentucky,A mile Dirt track , 2 good short tracks ...say salem ,nashville...... Run as a side show for something bigger ..a small point fund for a yearly champ ....giveum wheels ,gloves ,gas .tires free breakfast at craker barrel...what ever..... Every body hates but runs for points ......then plans could be made and guys would make the financial comitment. there would be 100 cars easy .....yes and the continued effort to bring the 350 croud a little closer there are lots of short tracks running 6 cars ......they to are looking at a bleek future I for one dont run local short tracks any more.....talking with others there are a whole bunch more like me. I want this to suceed ,I want the best racers in the world to come ...dont care who....I want the driver and crew that works the hardest, has the best luck and runs the smartest to go away and feel that he or she went up against a field of cars fairly matched .....and did well this really isnt about winning ,or money ........it is about feeling good about your effort.....and having the support of friends .......and not bankrupting your finances This sport requires so much hands on aquired knoledge and talent to even compete that the PLAYSTATION bunch .. and they are out there from some of the posts , couldnt properly set toe Maybe this is doomed.......then i will be looking to buy a dump truck to put my big red motor in. we will all soon find out ............keep the faith waldo |

Re: this series is doomed!!!!!
Yes I blame the drivers, tell me what are any of you doing to promote this series? building a car and showing up to a race may have worked in the 40's or 50's, but now you're up against many forms of automobile racing. and no one is watching. Do I think this could be a stand alone series, yes, do I think people want an affordable form of racing (for the drivers and fans), yes. people want to take their family and enjoy a good race that dosen't cost a fortune. Do you guys know that Bill France made all drivers sign contracts that they would race ALL tracks on the schedule. I watched over 70 cars at Kentucky where were they for hickory or nashville? You guys don't really want this series to work. so that is why I say it was fun while it lasted. And saying that a fan has no skin in the game? that's crazy, If you had more of us we would not be having this discussion. Think of it like this, you drivers are the product and we fans are the customers, now how are you going to sell your sport to us? |

Re: this series is doomed!!!!!
Nashville came about with, what, six weeks notice? I would have been there myself - entry fee was sent it - but wound up with a missing driveshaft a few days beforehand and couldn't get another made in time. Long story there. Also keep in mind that nearly all the drivers are currently running for points at their home tracks, and missing a race when running for points just doesn't compute. Between the short notice and the day it was scheduled, I think the turnout was ok. I've heard there were 30 or so cars on Saturday? |
