king kimmel for a day
I was just wondering, What would you do if you were king for a day and could change-up some rules? For example, one of the things i would do is. I would open up the types car that could compete as in "old arca & busch" cars were aloud. i.e. Lumina's, Monte Carlo's, Grand Prix's, & Thunderbird's.. with sealed crate motors only! and change the tire rule so that only take offs from one of the big three can be used. And lower the wicker bill to less than 6" and let the competitors display their own sponsors on them. Thats just a few things that i would do. How about You? |

Re: king kimmel for a day i think that openin it up for acra cars and stuff like that not a good idea were racin street stocks not latemodels, i would lower the cubic inch rule to 377 and let every one run a 650 carb if you run crates you get a weight break and headers like now and i would lower wheel base rule for the thunderbirds and newer camaros being allowed to run for more cars i think tire rule could be changed to somthing diffrent and i would allow diffrent noses

Re: king kimmel for a day This very idea passed through my head a while back. Keeping costs low has to be a priority, Compression rule of 10 or 11:1 would be first. Diversity needs to be encouraged. Right now there's 90% 80s Monte Carlos. Maybe a weight break for older model cars. Fords and Dodges need some incentives to show up. The series appears pretty good as is, so not much else I'd change right now.

Re: king kimmel for a day I would only change 1 rule and adjust another, the rule change would be a compression limit of 10 and 1/2 or 11 to 1. It makes no since to have a flat top rule with no compression limit. Most of us run or have larger chamber heads for our normal street stock rules to run this series and be competitive you already have to change alot in our motors, and with no compression rule if you want to compete you need 49cc heads, machined down in the 30's to work, thats alot of $$$ to only be able to use these heads for this series, a compression rule would allow us to be competitve with the heads we already have. The rule I would adjust is the body rule, It's getting real hard to find stock steel bodies(Even if only for the top portion of the fenders and roof), allow all aftermarket bodies as long as it is steel and fits a template, it is rediclous how badly some of these "STOCK BODIES" are chopped and allowed to run, stock or aftermarket must be steel and fit a template PERIOD!!!! Most of us don't have wind tunnels at our disposal or the facilities to chop a body for aero advantages.

Re: king kimmel for a day i agree on trying to make the motor rules more affordable for everyone. i am also sure that frank does not have the budget for templates and stuff like that. i like 95% of the rules just like they are, just wish i didnt have to spend 10 to 12 grand to have a competitive motor.

Re: king kimmel for a day I think Frank has done a good job with his rues. Looks like most of the post are wanting rules changed to their advantage I think that most of these guys just use these motors for this series. I would not change a thing these are the rules if you want to run my series here is you a rule book and let's go race. He done changed the motor rule to let the crate motors run.

Re: king kimmel for a day no to old nascar type cars. this is a street stock class. leave the engine rules the way they are now. no to a compression rule its easy to tech flat top pistons. 5 to 6 grand on an engine all you need to spend and win. or run a crate engine with the rules they should be up front. if you like fords or dodge bring them and race but no weight break. no body templates thats alot of cost for frank and the teams but stock roofs quarter panel and front fenders other body parts can be made with in the rules. to help keep the cars stock appearing and the aero close to stock. im having to build a car for this series i have 85 camaro wheel base is to short for the rules. and going to build an engine to there rules b/c there rules the engine make more power over what we can run at my local track. im glad im able to go to these tracks that the series runs at. i can say i have raced at the rock and bristol

Re: king kimmel for a day First, Frank O(mrstruk) its Billy S, if you could please give me a call at 216-253-1869. Next I would like to say I thank Frank Kimmel for this series and the opportunities it gives us. I am happy to build and race to the rules he has. I understand templates would be to expensive so in retrospect maybe that wasn't the best idea, the main reason behind it was because I am building a car for this series to be ready later this year and I have everything accounted for other than the body, I have been looking for months and have not found anything decent at a fair price, for a good mid 80's metric body,e everyone I find people want a mini fortune for, I would have no problem buying a complete steel body from duraFlex or raline, but I thought they were illegal, am I wrong? My understanding was it has to be a stock roof and fenders to a certain point. Or can we run an aftermarket body as long as it's steel and stock appearing? Once again thanks to Frank for this series and to all lets just keep building cars and help this series to grow to a point where track promoters have no choice but to take notic and realize that this series is the best grass roots racing available!!! Good luck to all at Salem and hope to see everyone later this season!
